Pre-Doctoral Applications Due March 26, 2007
Applications are available for the 2007/2008 California Pre-Doctoral Program at the School of Graduate, International & Interdisciplinary Studies online.
Applicants to the Program must be upper-division or master’s degree students who are enrolled at a CSU institution as of spring 2007 and who will also be enrolled at a CSU campus for at least one semester of the academic year 2007-2008. Applicants will be selected on the basis of three criteria: potential for success in completing a doctoral program, probable effectiveness of the student/faculty plan, and level of economic and educational advantage. All applicants must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Each applicant must have a faculty sponsor who will be available for the duration of the plan specified in the application.

Please submit original application plus 3 copies to the School of Graduate, International & Interdisciplinary Studies in Tehama 209.

Scholarships Deadline Extended to March 29-30
Last May, PAU , Enterprise Rent A Car and Activity Fee Council, crowned the first two winners of the Mister and Miss CSU, Chico Scholarship Contest, awarding them both $1,000 scholarships.
To be eligible to compete you must:
Be a CSU, Chico student, not graduating this May
Have a 2.0 cumulative GPA
Have some community service background
Complete an application
Be available on April 30, 2007 for the actual competition

The Power Point workshop will teach students how to create a simple Power Point presentation from a template, by using AutoContent Wizard and by using existing slides. Students will learn to modify, format, customize their slides for presentations, create hyperlinks and to format a PowerPoint presentation for the Web. They will learn printing techniques, how to deliver their presentation as well as how to manage their PowerPoint presentation files.

Ethics Initiative Film Series, March 28

In the late 1960’s a man named Cesar Chavez changed the lives of Latin American farm workers, fought for civil rights, battled racism and indecent working conditions. Experience this chapter of American history as one young woman balances the demands of her family and culture and fights to see her people free of poverty.
A candle light vigil march will be held after in memory of Cesar Chavez. Refreshments will be served after the march in the Free Speech Area. Event sponsored by Multicultural Affairs Council.

Ballroom Dance: "Ties & Tiaras" March 16
Come join the CSU, Chico Ballroom Dance Club for this Friday’s event “Ties & Tiaras”. It will be held in Shurmer Gym with a beginning and intermediate Waltz lesson starting at 7:30pm. (The beginning lesson will be in Shurmer and the intermediate lesson will be held in Acker 204.) The dance will start at 9pm.
Lessons are $3.00, the dance is $2.00, and if you come to both it’s only $4.00. Come wearing a tie, tiara, or both if you’re daring enoungh, and receive $1.00 off at the door. Semi formal attire is encouraged, but not required.

New Workshop Offered: Lifeguard Training RCED 940A-02
$150. Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 15 years old and also pass a swimming-skills test during the first meeting. Lifeguard training is designed to help develop an awareness of common hazards associated with various types of aquatic facilities and to develop knowledge in order to minimize these hazards. You will develop skills to recognize persons in distress or drowning situations and rescue them effectively, understand the lifeguard/employer and lifeguard/patron relationships; and establish an appreciation for the responsibilities of a lifeguard.

New Workshop from Continuing Education: Water Safety Instructor, RCED 940-C
Upon satisfactory completion of this workshop, participants will receive a Red Cross certificate of proficiency in water safety instruction. Students must be at least 16 years old and have superior swimming ability and water safety skills. For the first class on March 2, please meet on the deck near the diving pool at 4pm.
This course will continue to meet on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until March 16. Course fees are $180 for one unit or $480 for three units.
Part I: review, analysis and evaluation of basic strokes and lifesaving techniques.
Part II: theoretical background of aquatics instruction and practical experience.

Volunteers Needed for the Ch*Eco Film Fest, April 11-15
April 11-15 marks the first Ch*Eco*Film Fest, A Festival of Film and Art. This five day event is a collaborative effort of the Chico community and CSU, Chico campus. The event will be filled with fun, eye-opening and educational films, art displays and events.
Your enthusiasm is very much needed to act as a volunteer to staff the events throughout the Film Fest and let others know that this opportunity is available.
If you are interested in being a volunteer please come to the first volunteers meeting which will take place Tues., March 13 at 4pm in Butte Hall room 518 on the CSU, Chico campus. If you would like to volunteer but are unable to make the meeting please let me know and I will be sure to keep you updated. I look forward to your participation in this unique event.
