Skye the PE Guy and the Skye Walkers
Chico State Graduate student Skye Dunn and his team are trekking across the United States to promote quality, standards-based physical education. The number of overweight children has tripled in the last two decades. In an effort to raise awareness about this obesity epidemic and the health complications that may arise (Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease), Skye the PE Guy and his team are working to promote physical education programs that help children develop lifetime physical activity habits.
Skye is sponsored by CASPER (Center for Advancement in Standards-based Physical Education Reform) at CSU, Chico.
Skye and his team will be dedicating nine months of their lives (June 2007 - March 2008) to help get kids moving. They are walking, skating, biking, canoeing, kayaking, dancing, dribbling, etc. from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean via the American Discovery Trail.
Join Skye the PE Guy and the Skye Walkers in their journey of Fighting Obesity 10,000 steps at a time!

The Wild Oak Records’ Songwriters Guild presents a showcase of talented
singer/songwriters at the Blue Room Theatre in downtown Chico on April 10th,
2007.
The show will be featuring Allyn Pierce, Kyle Scully, JP, and Kyle Williams.
These four musicians have proved they have what it takes to move an audience
with their music with past performances with the Songwriters Guild. This is

The Photoshop I workshop is an introduction and overview of the Photoshop window, learning what is in the Photoshop toolbox and how to navigate the menus. Students will learn how to use the edit, image and layers menus. They will learn how to work with pixels, manage RCB, Index & CMYK color as well as learn about resolution and the difference between displayed and printed color.

Wellness Center Health Tip
Wellness Center Student Health Tip “Preventing Heat-related Illness”*:
Dress for the heat ~ wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. It is also a good idea to wear hats or use an umbrella.
Drink water ~ carry a water bottle with you and drink from it continuously, even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine which dehydrate the body.
Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid foods that are high in protein which increase metabolic heat.
Slow down ~ avoid strenuous activity, but if you must, do it during the cooler parts of the day.
Stay indoors when possible.
Take regular breaks.

4th Annual Syd Bassow Memorial Golf Tournament, April 29
4th Annual Syd Bassow Memorial Golf Tournament
“Celebrating Leadership with Alumni and Friends”
The annual golf tournament is a fundraiser presented by the Associated Students and Jackie Faris-Rees LEADership Programs to provide funding for the AS Officer of the Year Scholarship. This year the tournament will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Bidwell Golf Course. The shotgun start will take place at 9am and the scramble style game will allow alumni, students, and staff of California State University, Chico to play on teams of four. The cost for the day will be around $70 for students and $90 for all non-students, which includes a full round of golf, and a golf cart for your team. Following the golf tournament, lunch will be provided, along with the awards for the day. Chico Performances is proud to present world renowned sitarist Anoushka Shankar in Laxson Auditorium on March 30, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.
If internationally beloved sitar player Ravi Shankar is the emissary of Indian classical music, his daughter, Anoushka, is certainly his successor. Showing an understanding of the great musical tradition of India, Anoushka’s music is a synthesis of instruments and vocals that evoke India’s sacred places and rituals of ordinary lives. Continuing her father’s legacy of spellbinding musicianship, Anoushka is performing with her Rise Ensemble, a group composed of seven musicians from all over the world creating a cultural tapestry not to be missed.

Hispanic Poetry Class Recitals, May 9
The Spanish 444: Hispanic Poetry class will recite poetry Wednesday, May 9, in the Larry Wismer Theatre (PAC 135) from 6pm to 8pm. Students will recite original and non-original poems in Spanish. Scholarship Deadline Extended to March 30
Last May, PAU , Enterprise Rent A Car and Activity Fee Council crowned the first two winners of the Mister and Miss CSU, Chico Scholarship Contest, awarding them both $1,000 scholarships.
To be eligible to compete you must:
Be a CSU, Chico student, not graduating this May
Have a 2.0 cumulative GPA
Have some community service background
Complete an application

Cesar Chavez Day Celebration, MEChA presents "La Causa," March 28
In the late 1960’s a man named Cesar Chavez changed the lives of Latin American farm workers, fought for civil rights, battled racism and indecent working conditions. Experience this chapter of American history as one young woman balances the demands of her family and culture and fights to see her people free of poverty.
A candle light vigil march will be held after in memory of Cesar Chavez. Refreshments will be served after the march in the Free Speech Area. Event sponsored by Multicultural Affairs Council from 7:30pm -10pm.

New Workshop from Continuing Education: Preparing for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), RCED 933D
This workshop provides analysis and review of each of the sections of the GRE exam: quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning, as well as the analytical writing assessment. This class will undertake a general study of selected women composers, musicians, conductors, and teachers in music from the last 200 years, using composition, literary writings, performances, and other documentary materials. Their significant musical contributions, as well as the political, social, and cultural impact of their works will be discussed. Class runs from May 21 to June 6, MWTR from 9am - 1:30pm in PAC 116. Volunteers Needed for the Ch*Eco Film Fest, April 11-15
April 11-15 marks the first Ch*Eco*Film Fest, A Festival of Film and Art. This five day event is a collaborative effort of the Chico community and Chico State campus. The event will be filled with fun, eye-opening and educational films, art displays and events.
Your enthusiasm is very much needed to act as a volunteer to staff the events throughout the Film Fest and let others know that this opportunity is available.

Graduate Equity Fellowship for Under-Served Groups
The goal of the Graduate Equity Fellowship Program (GEFP) is to prepare, motivate, encourage and support those graduate students who aspire to obtain a doctorate and pursue an academic career in teaching and research. Awards for an academic year total $5,500. The two-part program provides a stipend of $750/semester and a salary of $2,000/semester for research related activities under the direction of a faculty mentor.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
You must be economically disadvantaged; must have come from an educationally disadvantaged background/experienced restricted access to quality educational opportunities; be admitted to the University and a master’s degree program; classified as a California resident; and there must be a probable need for faculty in your academic discipline - i.e., a projected shortfall in the supply of qualified faculty in your field of study.
Deadline: April 2 for Fall
November 1 for Spring

Don't Miss Inti-Illimani's Global World Music, April 1
For over three decades, Inti-Illimani’s music has intoxicated audiences around the globe. Chico Performances is proud to present an evening of world music with Inti-Illimani on Sunday, April 1, 2007 at 7:30pm in Laxson Auditorium at California State University, Chico.
Wedded in traditional Latin American roots and played on more than 30 wind, string, and percussion instruments, Inti-Illimani’s compositions are a treasure for the human spirit. They have toured with Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and Tracy Chapman, among others. In 1988, these politically-oriented songwriters and musicians returned to Chile after a 14 year exile from their homeland. They have since gone on to become South America’s ambassadors for human rights.

Criminal Justice Student Association to Host Career Night, April 10
A panel of Criminal Justice and Political Science speakers who work in the fields of FBI, Assistant District Attorney, Interrogator, Background Investigator, and Police officer. Each will speak on who they are, what they do and how they got to where they are today. This event is to show students the career opportunities they have within the field of political science. After the speakers, there will be a raffle with prizes from throughout the community, such as pizzas, movie tickets, various gift baskets, and other miscellaneous items.
The event takes place on April 10 at 6pm in Holt 170.
