Come Out and Sail

Hello from the CSU, Chico Sailing Club - I hope you will all join us in sailing this semester. My name is David “boots” Baker. I am the coach for CSU, Chico Sailing Club, and I just wanted to send you a quick message about how the club works.

The club meets Fridays 2pm - 5pm. and Saturdays 12pm - 4pm at the Forebay Aquatic Center just this side of Oroville. To get there take 99 South to 149 and exit left to connect to 70. Take the 70 exit right and go south one exit to Garden Ave. Turn right and enter the park. Once you are in the park, follow the road around to the left towards the two big metal buildings. We meet in the building surrounded by sailboats.

I invite you to join us for one practice to see how much fun it is before paying very reasonably priced dues. If you would like, join us this weekend. All equipment is provided by the aquatic center. We have all the boats, lifejackets, wetsuits, and certified instructors you will need.

I hope to see you this weekend. If you have any questions, call me at 619-405-0449.

University Film Series: Deep Cover, April 24

University Film Series
Tuesday nights
7:30pm, Ayres 106
$3 donation appreciated
898-4642

April 24
Deep Cover (U.K., 1989) 81min. VHS. Directed by Richard Loncraine. Written by Dennis Potter. Hosted by Laird Easton, Department of History and director of the Humanities Center.

Jason Cavendish (Donald Pleasence) is an ornery, eccentric former Cambridge professor who has sequestered himself in his remote country estate with his daughter, second wife, and private secretary. Daniel (Tom Conti), a strange interloper, arrives just as Jason collapses, and, by reviving the old man, elicits a rare invitation to stay. Presumably Daniel has come to do research for a thesis and is fascinated by a children’s allegory written by Jason years ago. It would appear that fictions are still in progress as the estate transforms into an eerie stage strewn with mysteries. No one is exactly whom he pretends to be, and, as the facades fall away, many a blackened past reappears to exact a long overdue revenge. Originally shown on British television and titled Blade on the Feather. With Denholm Elliott, Kika Markham, and Phoebe Nicholls.
