Books For Africa Book Drive

Donate your used textbooks now through May 18.

Golden Key International Honour Society is sponsoring our third semi-annual book drive in conjunction with Better World Books and Books For Africa, to combat illiteracy in Africa. There will be drop boxes on the 1st floor of the BMU for you to donate your used textbooks (even novels used in English classes), books will be boxed and shipped to Books For Africa and then sent on to Africa in order to build libraries. Textbooks such as US history books or books pushing other religions will not be sent, but can be sold to raise funds for the shipping of the books. So donate whatever you can to this great cause.

The Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility

Graduating seniors, do more with your degree than simply sustain your own life. Take the graduation pledge and join more than 110 other colleges and universities over the world in a commitment to social and environmental accountability. Pledge your commitment to all that you’ve learned at CSU, Chico by making a pledge to yourself. The pledge is free, simple and takes less than five minutes. Once you’ve made the pledge, you are one of thousands of students who are committed to social and environmental accountability for life.

The Graduation Pledge of Social and Environmental Responsibility states, “I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organizations for which I work.” Students define for themselves what it means to be socially and environmentally responsible.

For more information on the graduation pledge, please visit their main website at www.graduationpledge.org.

To take the pledge, visit the website www.aschico.com/gradpledge, or visit the AS Sustainability Program office in BMU 005 now through May 18, 2007.

For more information, please contact Amy Miller, AS Sustainability Coordinator, or Tami Kautz, AS Sustainability Program Asisstant at (530) 898-3645.

Paid Fall Internship

Hillel, a multinational non-profit organization, is the source for Jewish student life at CSU, Chico. This fall Hillel has openings for four paid internship opportunities.

Interns will have opportunities to gain skills in, among other things, programming, leadership, grant-writing, website development, and non-profit administration.

In addition to the resume-building skills you can learn, you also get to work in a great environment with flexible hours. We have a great office right next to campus, complete with snacks, drinks, TV, and even fooseball.

If that wasn’t enough, you will have multiple opportunities for attending all-expense paid conferences of your choice. This could be anything from a social justice conference in Washington, DC to attending exclusive speakers at private events in San Francisco. Just this past year, two interns were able to go to Israel for free as a result of a conference they attended.

For more information or to apply contact the Director, Bryan Rowes at ChicoHillelDir@gmail.com. Don’t let this amazing opportunity pass you by.

Last Dance, May 11

We are having our last dance this Friday, May 11 from 8pm - 11pm.

There will be no theme and no lesson beforehand. If you are a CSU, Chico student and are interested in running for a BDC office, elections will be held about 7pm. You will have to be a member of the club to run for office and to vote for future officers. Memberships will be available at the door for only $1.00. It is worth it since the dance itself will cost $2.00 without a membership pass.

If you have any questions, contact Lisa Gislon, Promotions Officer.
