Humanities and Fine Arts Offers Trip to Galapagos Islands

Humanities and Fine Arts is offering a trip to the Galapagos Islands and Quito, Ecuador, from Jan. 4 through 14, 2008. The faculty-in-residence is Andrew Flescher, Religious Studies. Flescher has traveled extensively in Brazil and spent a summer studying wildlife in the Amazon River Basin.

The Galapagos Islands represent one of the few locations left on the planet in which nature is pristine. The islands are known for the wide array of animals that live on them, including great lizards and the largest tortoises in the world.

“My interest in wildlife was awakened when I visited the Amazon River Basin in Brazil,” said Flescher. “I fell in love with a verdant world populated by both tranquil and ferocious creatures oblivious to civilization.”

The $3249 package includes round-trip airfare from San Francisco, airport fees, breakfast daily, one dinner on land, and all meals on the cruise; a tour of Quito San Francisco Monastery; an excursion to the Equatorial Line; a four-day Galapagos cruise to six islands and the services of a professional tour director.

If you would like more information on this trip, please contact Thomasin Saxe, group coordinator, at tsaxe@csuchico.edu or 530-898-4642. You may also visit the Web site for more information.
