Come Join the CSU, Chico GLBTQ community for refreshments and activities centered on GLBTQ issues.
Pride is designed to provide socialization and interaction between lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and straight-allied college students. The organization also functions as a political, social service, and educational body on campus. Pride participates in several campus sponsored events, student panels, social gatherings and general meetings.

New Class: KINE 295 Disability in Films and Physical Activity
New Class Offering: KINE 295 - Disability in Films and Physical Activity (3.0 units) Tuesdays 5pm - 7:50pm, Yolo 143.
(This class still has openings for students from all disciplines; please help promote this wonderful class by making this announcement in your classes.)
Come watch movies and explore the world of disability in physical activity. This course is designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn about disability in film and physical activity. Moreover, the experience will provide students an in-depth look into the portrayal of individuals with disabilities in film and media and how this does or does not coincide with societal views and values, education, physical education, politics, individual and group behavior. Perceptions and personal views regarding individuals with disability and their inclusion and/or segregation in society will be explored through the visual arts.

Alums Pat Collentine and Susan Larsen return with the latest in their “Kolorbar” series for their third show at the Humanities Center Gallery (in the past: Dec. ‘02 and Apr. ‘04). The series is an ongoing exploration originally inspired by a trip to southeast Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park in 1995. Larsen and Collentine have collaborated on several public art projects and just completed Wanders in a Riparian Garden, a three-part sculpture installed in Sacramento’s Regency Park. They are represented by Augen Gallery (Portland, OR).

Geog 199: Bioneers Conference Course Offered
Geography 199: Bioneers Conference Course is available for registration for the Fall 2007 Semester.
The class will explore topics related to sustainability that are addressed at the Bioneers Conference, which will be held in San Rafael October 19-21, 2007. The Bioneers Conference will expose students to various speakers and panel discussions which address topics that promote practical environmental solutions and innovative social strategies for restoring the Earth and communities. Students will be expected to participate in class meetings and complete assignments, take an active role in the class and the conference, and make a presentation on the Bioneers Conference upon their return.

Authentic Folk Dance Presented by the Georgian State Dance Company Coming to Laxson, Sept. 4
Experience exciting folk dance all the way from the Soviet Union with the Georgian State Dance Company on Sept. 13, 2007 at 7:30pm in Laxson Auditorium, courtesy of Chico Performances.
A Georgian State dancer’s performance is where gymnastics meets wrestling. The dancers, all hailing from the former Soviet Union’s Republic of Georgia, are extremely physical, and perform dances which portray the culture and rituals of the Georgian people: weddings, prayer, fishing and courtship. With dramatic turns, spins, knee landings, and mock sword fights (with real swords), this is a performance of classic folk dance.
Tickets are $23 Premium, $18 Adult, $16 Senior, $14 Student/Child and are available at the University Box Office, 898-6333, 2nd & Normal Streets.

London Semester - Spring 2008

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts plans to send 30 students with Professor Daniel Veidlinger to London in January for a semester abroad. This is one of those experiences that will change your life!

General (G) Parking permits are sold out for Fall 2007, but there are still other transportation options available to you. Did you know you could use your Wildcat card as a free bus pass? Did you know you could find information from bike parking to bike repair in one location? Looking for maps of and directions to campus to share with visiting friends?
The new Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Web site is designed to answer these questions and more. GRE Preparation Workshop Enrollment Now Open
Planning on taking the GRE? Bobrow testing services is offering a workshop to help you maximize your potential.
Each of the sections will be analyzed and reviewed: quantitative reasoning; verbal reasoning (antonyms, analogies, sentence completion, and reading comprehension); and the analytical writing assessment. A short review of mathematics is also included. This course has a free repeat policy.

Chico Dance Theatre Audition
Chico Dance Theatre will be holding auditions beginning Friday, Aug. 31 in Acker 204 at 2pm. Final auditions will be held on Friday, Sept. 7 at 2pm in Acker 204. Review sessions will be held Tuesday and Wednesday nights in Acker 204 at 7pm.
Chico Dance Theatre is CSU, Chico’s largest dance performance group. Chico Dance Theatre Annual Showcase is student choreographed and directed. Chico Dance Theatre also prides itself on performing a wide range of dance styles including tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip-hop, Fosse, various ethnic styles, and musical theatre. After fall auditions students sign up for THEA 203/303 and attend Friday afternoon master class sessions. In addition to the Friday classes, the dancers rehearse weekly for each dance. The culminating event is the production of the Chico Dance Theatre Showcase in early December of each year. For any more information contact Kristin Carmack or Dr. Sue Pate.

Dance Team Auditions
Expressions, the Chico State Dance Team, will be holding auditions for the 2007-2008 season on Mon., Sept. 10 at 7:30pm in Shurmer Gym. Expressions performs at many CSU, Chico athletic events, community events, and holds an annual showcase in the spring. Expressions focuses on jazz but also performs hip hop, lyrical and tap pieces. Dance experience is recommended.

Basic & Intermediate Web Design Workshops - Fall 2007
The Communication Design Department once more is offering 2-day classes in Basic and Intermediate Web Design. You can gain skills on the latest techniques in Web design during these 2-day classes and receive one hour of credit.
On October 5-6 Jon Knolle, owner of Learning Change, will teach you the fundamentals of Web Design in CDES 212 (8069) Basic Web Design. A few weeks later you can enhance your skills in a follow-up session on Nov. 2-3 in CDES 312 (8068), Intermediate Web Design. Each class is one unit for credit only. So, to keep up with the newest in Web design applications, taught by the North State’s leading professional, sign up on the Portal soon. Space is limited and your opportunity is rare.
