Sustainability Tip: Purchase ENERGY STAR Certified Products
When purchasing new home appliances, look to environmentally friendly products like ENERGY STAR certified products. If just one in 10 homes used ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, the change would be like planting 1.7 million new acres of trees.

Sustainability Tip: Buy LED Holiday Lights
Buy LED holiday lights rather than the traditional bulbs. Though LED lights cost a bit more, they’ll pay for themselves with the energy saved and longer lifetime. It costs about $0.12 per kilowatt hour to run LED mini-lights compared to $7.09 per kilowatt for incandescent C7 bulbs. LED mini-lights use 80% less energy used by regular incandescent holiday lights, emit virtually no heat, and last for up to 100,000 hours.

December 2-19
Humanities Center Gallery, 898-4642
Trinity 100 and Hallway, hours: M-F 8am - 5pm
Thurs., Dec. 4, Reception, 5pm - 7pm
Artist’s talk at 6pm, introduced by colleague and friend Ira H. Latour
The Humanities Center Gallery joins the University Art Gallery (UAG), The Turner, 1078 Gallery, and Avenue 9 Gallery in this fall’s tribute to the photography of Ansel Adams and the photographers and artists Adams influenced. David Johnson is one such photographer, and we are fortunate to be showing his works — because of the good efforts of his friends Ira H. Latour (whose Portraiture and Place just closed at the 1078) and Tom Patton, director of the photography program at CSU, Chico and co-curator with Jason Tannen of the UAG’s recent Nature & Spirit: The Landscape Photographs of Ansel Adams.
A photographer with over half a century of experience, David Johnson has the distinction of being Ansel Adam’s first African American student at the California School of Fine Arts, now known as the San Francisco Art Institute. After graduating from CSFA, Johnson went on to establish his own studio on Fillmore Street diligently documenting the development of the neighborhood during the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s.
