California Pre-Doctoral Applications Available
Upper division undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply for $3,000 in funding from the California Pre-Doctoral Program. This Program is designed to support the doctoral aspirations of California State University students who have experienced economic or educational disadvantages.
Online applications are available for the 2009/2010 California Pre-Doctoral Program. The deadline to submit your application is Mon., March 16, 2009 at 4pm. Please submit your original application plus three copies to the School of Graduate, International & Interdisciplinary Studies located in the Student Services Center 440.

Art of Diversity Inaugural Art Show
The Office of Diversity is launching a new art exhibit, and we need your help to make it happen. The exhibit will be up for the entire month of March 2009, and submissions will be accepted from Nov. 3 - Jan. 31. The submissions form is available at the Web site.

Michael Tilson Thomas to Direct the San Francisco Symphony, Jan. 22
Come join Chico Performances as they bring the world famous San Francisco Symphony Orchestra with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas to Laxson Auditorium, on Jan. 22, 2008 at 7:30pm.
Universally recognized as a world-class symphony orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony has won acclaim and praise since its inception in 1911. Under the baton of maestro Michael Tilson Thomas since 1995, they will be performing Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor, Opus, 64; Haydn’s Symphony No. 60 in C major - Il distratto; and M. Tilson Thomas’ own Street Song for Symphonic Bass.

CSU, Chico Qualifies for National Ethics Bowl Competition
California State University, Chico students have qualified to compete against 31 other schools at the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl to be held March 5, 2009, in Cincinnati.
CSU, Chico’s six-member team placed second at the California Regional Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Dec. 6, which qualified them for the national finals. The regional event was held in San Jose, hosted by National Hispanic University.
The University of San Diego team won the regional and is the other California school to compete in the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. Other institutions represented at the national finals include University of Colorado, University of North Carolina, Dartmouth College, Williams College and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The School of the Arts at CSU, Chico is offering the best holiday gift ever — give the gift of the arts to your family and friends.
Gift certificates are available in any amount and can be redeemed for tickets to any event at the University sponsored by the School of the Arts and featuring faculty and students. A special holiday discount of 10% will be credited towards redemption of the gift certificate. (Fundraisers are excepted from this discount.) The gift certificates must be used by May 22, 2009.

If You Loved Cirque Mechanics, You'll Love Peking Acrobats - Coming back to Laxson, Jan. 20
Every January the Peking Acrobats come to Laxson Auditorium, and every January the Peking Acrobats amaze audience members with their incredible skill. Join Chico Performances as they welcome back the Peking Acrobats, a high-energy performance of Chinese acrobatics and music on Jan. 20, 2008 at 7:30pm in Laxson Auditorium.
Pushing the envelope of what’s humanly possible, this troupe of more than 20 gymnasts, jugglers, cyclists, and tumblers fill the stage with amazing feats that defy gravity. Accompanied by live musicians skillfully performing on traditional instruments and multi-media special effects, this performance is a sell-out year after year.

CAVE Alternative Spring Break Program Accepting Applications Jan. 26
Want to go hiking, or visit New Orleans next semester? Check out Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program. Get out of Chico and earn some units while doing it. The ASB program is about targeting specific needs outside of our community to bring awareness back home.
New Orleans trip spring ‘09: Volunteers will work with Habitat for Humanity in St. Bernard’s Parish, rebuilding homes that were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.
Redwood National Park spring ‘09: Volunteers will work in the Redwood National Park restoring wilderness area, maintaining trails, cleaning up sites, repairing campsites, removing non-native plants and backpacking throughout the park.
