Residence Hall Programs Receive National Awards
California State University, Chico’s Department of University Housing and Food Service has received two honors this fall by national organizations for its residence hall programs.
CSU, Chico’s residence hall program board, Prime Time Productions, was awarded the National Social Program for the month of October by the National Association of College and University Residence Halls.
The award was given for a cooking competition in which four pairs of Konkow House residents competed for a “Top Chef” title over a three-week period. Similar to some popular TV cooking competition programs, teams were given a box of ingredients with limited time to prepare their meals. Each week featured a new culinary theme to spur creativity. Weekly and grand prize winners were selected.

Peter Jodaitis writes of his latest series: “Global Gangsters is my designation for the barbarian hordes in charge of America and large parts of the world. Like others before me (Piranesi, Goya, Philip Guston, to name a few), I have felt that I needed to express my reactions to what I have been witnessing. Using media such as charcoal, gouache, water color, ink, and oil on paper—usually devoted to my celebration of the human form, glories of nature, and inventions of literature—I have been compelled to portray literally, directly, or symbolically the acts and effects of torture, domestic horrors, and the glorification of greed, power, money, and fanaticism.”
Jodaitis has had shows in Boston’s Atlantic Monthly Gallery, New York’s Joseph Papp Theatre, San Jose’s City College Gallery, Palo Alto’s Cultural Center, and Los Gatos’ Tercera Gallery. He moved here in 1993 and has shown in the James Snidle Gallery, Chico Art Center, Cory’s, 1078 Gallery, Spice Creek Restaurant, Chico Paper Company, and previously in the Humanities Center Gallery.

Humanities Center Gallery in January and February: CSU, Chico Alum Klutch Stanaway's "Plywood on Paper"

Humanities Center Gallery, Trinity 100, 898-4642
Gallery hours: M-F 8am - 5pm
Feb. 6 Reception 5pm - 7pm (talk at 6pm)
Klutch Stanaway received an M.F.A. in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.F.A. from CSU, Chico (he was the first student gallery assistant employed by the Humanities Center Gallery at its inception). Stanaway’s work is represented by SolwayJones in Los Angeles, and has been reviewed in Art Scene, ArtForum.com, and Artweek. The series from which this exhibit derives makes references to minimalism, modernism, and, as Stanaway writes, “good ol’ suburbia.” He also says, “I use crystalline forms, satellites, and the Mars Rovers as templates for drawings and plywood sculptures. The Crystalline Plywood Templates could be considered paper models for DIY crystals, faux bois inkblots, or a carpenter’s formal exercises.”
Stanaway has exhibited in many solo and group shows in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Germany, and the Netherlands. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Pierce and Fullerton Colleges in Southern California.
