Humanities Center Gallery in February: Tile Artist Robin Indar, PIECEMEAL; Severance Package Plays Reception, Feb 6.
Feb. 3-26
Piecemeal, Robin Indar
Humanities Center Gallery, Trinity Hallway, x4642
Gallery hours: M-F 8am - 5pm
Feb. 6
Reception 5pm - 7pm with live performance by Severance Package
Robin Indar was born in Fairfax, California, in 1973, the youngest daughter of a free-spirited mom and an underground cartoonist father. She began making art at an early age, working in every imaginable media until settling (mostly) into creating original, often functional works in mosaic and ceramic sculpture. Indar studied art at CCAC in Oakland. For several years she fronted the band Black Fork, which kept her busy touring, recording, and designing albums and promotional materials. She is currently taking time off from her studies at CSU, Chico to finish a series of commissions including one at Enloe Hospital’s new parking structure. Her list of completed projects includes public art, residential remodeling, mosaic portraiture, creating her own line of handmade tile called Rebel Tiles, and gallery showings. One of Indar’s recent projects was at Caper Acres in Bidwell Park, where she created dozens and dozens of hand-made tiles to adorn a large mosaic sea serpent—with five humps and a tail—that reaches out of water-like-flooring. You may find out more information at her Web site: www.robinindar.com.

Humanities Center Gallery in February: CSU Chico Alum Klutch Stanaway's "Plywood on Paper"
Now through Feb. 26, 2009
Plywood on Paper, Klutch Stanaway
Humanities Center Gallery, Trinity 100, 898-4642
Gallery hours: M-F 8am - 5pm
Feb. 6
Reception 5pm - 7pm (talk at 6pm)
Klutch Stanaway received an M.F.A. in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.F.A. from CSU, Chico (he was the first student gallery assistant employed by the Humanities Center Gallery at its inception). Stanaway’s work is represented by Solway Jones in Los Angeles, and has been reviewed in Art Scene, ArtForum.com, and Artweek. The series from which this exhibit derives makes references to minimalism, modernism, and, as Stanaway writes, “good ol’ suburbia.” He also says, “I use crystalline forms, satellites, and the Mars Rovers as templates for drawings and plywood sculptures. The Crystalline Plywood Templates could be considered paper models for DIY crystals, faux bois inkblots, or a carpenter’s formal exercises.”
Stanaway has exhibited in many solo and group shows in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Germany, and the Netherlands. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Pierce and Fullerton Colleges in Southern California.
