Students Among Top Performers at Regional Sales Competition
Professor Tim Heinze, Department of Finance and Marketing, and four students traveled to the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition at Arizona State University in Phoenix and brought back several awards, $2,500 in prize money and a second-place award that was only a hair’s width behind the winning team.
Chico was one of five universities that sent teams to the April 18th event. The other campuses were Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, CSU, Bakersfield and CSU, Fresno.
“Usually, when people say they narrowly missed winning, they may mean by a few points,” said Heinze, who teaches marketing and is also the director of the department’s new professional sales program. “We missed first place by 3/10ths of a point, scoring 86.61 points out of a possible 100 to CSU, Bakersfield’s 86.92. The students were incredible, and each of the four students won impressive awards and came away with a total of approximately $2,500 in prize money.” Students on the team were Gillian Leeds, James Newman, Ryan Pomeroy and Drew Lewis.
