Who is needed? Any and all Graduates of this or last term who are enthusiastic about having something to show off and do on graduation weekend besides a hangover and piece of paper promising a diploma upon completion of already completed classes.

Save the Date for the Annual MCGS Senior Research Symposium

The Annual MCGS Senior Research Symposium is scheduled to take place on Wed., May 13 from 3pm - 6pm.

Seniors enrolled in Multicultural and Gender Studies capstone courses (WMST 490/MCGS 495) will present their semester’s research.

The Symposium will take place in the Humanities Center, Trinity 126.

Snacks and beverages will be provided for all in attendance.

Stephanie Mirza, MA Liberal Studies, Wesleyan University, will be giving a presentation on Muslim American fiction.

According to a 2006 USA Today/Gallup Poll, one quarter of Americans would not want a Muslim neighbor. Last Chance to Apply to Campus Wellness Center

Are you in need of a paid internship? The Campus Wellness Center is accepting applications for an Intern Coordinator for Fall 2009. Along with educating students about the 8 areas of wellness, you will:

• Supervise 4-5 Wellness Center interns
• Facilitate weekly meetings
• Develop creative programming about wellness-related topics

Other requirements include:
• Two semester commitment
• Twenty hours per week staffing the office
• GPA of 3.0 or higher

There are excellent benefits to becoming an Intern Coordinator for the Campus Wellness Center:
• Advancement of communication and management sills
• Gain supervisory experience and program developmental skills
• Wonderful networking opportunities and resume builder
• Possible academic units for your major
• $4000 per year, work study stipend

All majors are welcome. This internship is a great stepping stone into graduate school or the world of work.

Lecture: "Games We Play: A Conversation About Homophobia in Athletics," May 6

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences along with the Office of Diversity and the Cross Cultural Leadership Center are pleased to announce a lecture being given by Pat Griffin titled, “Games We Play: A Conversation About Homophobia in Athletics”.

Pat Griffin is the Director of It Takes A Team! Education Campaign for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Issues in Sport, an initiative of the Women’s Sports Foundation. Dr Griffin is also a Professor Emeritus in the Social Justice Education Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her research and writing interests focus on heterosexism/homophobia and sexism in education, lesbian and gay teachers and students, with a special interest in heterosexism/homophobia in athletics. Dr. Griffin is co-editor of Teaching For Diversity and Social Justice: A Sourcebook for Teachers and Trainers (2007). She is the author of Strong Women, Deep Closets: Homophobia and Lesbians in Sport (1998). She has appeared on ESPN, ABC Sports, and HBO Sports as an expert commentator on lesbian and gay issues in sport. In 2007 Dr. Griffin was named one of the top 100 sport educators in the United States by the Institute for International Sport.

Interfaith Event, May 4

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) is looking for CAMERA representatives on campuses across the nation and internationally. Each student will receive $1000 and a free trip to Israel in June 2010. The CAMERA rep will promote pro-Israeli coverage on his/her campus with speakers/events and by unique ideas of the individual representative. We are hoping that you could help us find applicants by either posting information/flyers on your Hillel web site or throughout the Hillel. The application deadline is July 1, 2009 and is attached below. Please contact Aviva Slomich the of National Student Coordinator of CAMERA if have questions. A Tribute to Tango, Tang First Century, May 13

Chico Performances presents a night of lively, seductive dance with spicy music, as Tango First Century comes to the Laxson Auditorium stage on Wed., May 13, 2009 at 7:30pm.

In a dazzling tribute to tango, Tango First Century presents an intoxicating and sensual fusion of enchanting song, fancy footwork, and musical mastery. Three couples explore the passion of traditional and contemporary tango, gracefully executing the dance’s intricate steps to pulsating beats delivered by an internationally acclaimed septet of musicians. This performance is supported, in part, with funds provided by California Presenters.

Capital Projects Update Meeting, May 6

You are invited to a University Capital Projects Update meeting, Wed., May 6 from 5pm - 6pm in the Performing Arts Center Room 134. The purpose of the meeting is to present an update on the status of the six current projects: Wildcat Recreation Center, Sutter Hall, Gateway Science Museum, Colusa Hall Remodel, University Center Demolition and Creek Restoration, the Transportation Demand Management Plan, and to provide information on future projects.

Work Number For Everyone - New Verification of Employment Procedure

Beginning May 11, 2009, California State Employees (Faculty, Staff, and Students) working for CSU, Chico may take advantage of a new automated system for handling employment and salary verifications called “The Work Number For Everyone”.

Whether you are renting an apartment, buying a house, purchasing a car, or doing anything else that requires employment and/or salary verification, The Work Number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week via touch-tone phone.

The benefits of this service are significant: potential quicker loan approvals, speedier employment verifications, up-to-date information, and round-the-clock access to employment and salary information for verifiers (organizations that need credit or employment reference information).

Sustainability Internship Positions

The Institute for Sustainable Development has two summer internship positions currently available:

Climate Summer Intern - 3 unit intern at approximately 12 hours per week - will assist in a campus-wide greenhouse gas inventory as well as development of a climate action plan.

Public Relations and Marketing Summer Intern - 3 unit intern at approximately 12 hours per week - writing and distributing press releases on the campus sustainability efforts, marketing of projects and programs, including the maintenance of the Institute’s Facebook account, multi-media promotion of upcoming sustainability events and speakers, tabling at informational booths, and recruitment of students to our annual This Way to Sustainability, V Conference.
