Yamato Taiko is coming to Laxson, Oct. 13
Chico Performances is bringing the culture and tradition of Japanese taiko drumming to Laxson Auditorium with Yamato Taiko on Tues., Oct. 13 at 7:30pm.
This Japanese troupe of 10 drummers combines a sense of drama and strong percussion, producing the most “physical” form of music—Taiko drumming. Using instruments such as the huge kettledrum, the side drum, and the tambour, Yamato’s drumming ranges from the delicate patter of raindrops to hammered-out rolling thunder to a slowed-down heartbeat. Yamato combines drums with the timpani, the flute, and colorful, authentic Japanese costumes for an evening of highly charged rhythm.
This performance will have your heart pounding to the beat of Japanese culture and transport you from Laxson to a land far away.
Tickets for this performance are $28 for Premium, $23 for Adult, $21 for Senior, and $16 for Student/Child.

Important Changes In Academic Policies
Upon the issuance of Executive Memorandum 09-10, there have been important changes in the assignment of withdrawal “W” grades, repetition of courses and re-enrollment in classes where a grade of incomplete “I” has been assigned. You may read the entire EM online.
“W” Grades
Undergraduate students may withdraw from no more than 18 semester units after census. Withdrawals after census require a serious and compelling reason and instructor, chair and dean signatures. A complete withdrawal from a semester for a serious and compelling reason will not count in the 18 semester unit limit, nor will individual class withdrawals that are for reasons beyond the student’s control, such as serious illness or accident.
Repeating Classes
Undergraduate students may repeat a maximum of 28 units in which grades of “C-” or lower have been earned. Students may now repeat 3 classes, not to exceed 16 units, using a Repeat for Forgiveness petition. Students will no longer be able to apply the General Repeat Policy to an unlimited number of units. The combined total of units repeated with or without forgiveness will be 28 units.
Incompletes
A student may not re-enroll in a class for which he or she has received an “I” until that “I” has been converted to a grade other than “I”.
If you have questions regarding these changes in academic policies, please contact Student Records and Registration, Student Services Center 220.

Join AS Sustainability for a "Water Walk," Oct. 14
Freshwater scarcity affects one in three people on every continent of the globe. In Asia and Africa, women walk an average of 3 miles per day to fetch water for drinking and household needs. Why are we taking our clean Chico tap water for granted, and supporting bottled water companies with our purchasing power?
Come join us for the National Take Back the Tap Day of Action, where you can experience what it’s like to carry a bucket of water a half-mile around campus, only 1/6 of what these women do. Let’s gain some perspective together. Some buckets will be provided, but bring one if you can.
Where: Meet at Alumni Glenn (creek area between Butte and Holt Hall, CSU Chico campus)
When: 11am or 2pm, Wed., Oct. 14 (we will be holding two walks)
Contact: Deanna Dottai, TBTT Field Organizer, SCDeannaD@hotmail.com
*** If you are physically unable to carry buckets, we would also like volunteers to carry signs as we walk.

Learn to Invest like a Pro at The Investor's Club
Just about anyone can invest some money and get lucky in the stock market from time to time; but many have learned that it is just as easy to lose that hard earned money. To be successful over the long term one should develop specific rules with respect to how they invest. When developing these rules, why not utilize the knowledge and expertise of proven investment professionals. That is the exact principle that is guiding the curriculum at the Investor’s Club. Each week, presentations are given based on the research and analysis conducted by William O’Neil and highlighted in his best selling book “How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times or Bad.”
Over the remainder of the semester, The Investor’s Club will be holding weekly meetings on Wednesdays at 7pm in Glenn 214. Each meeting will highlight important time-tested rules and strategies that can help you make money in good times, and preserve it in bad times. Many of the rules taught in this club would have prompted investors to sell their stock at the very beginning of the recession. So come join us as we develop the rules and discipline necessary to become successful investors.
For more information about The Investor’s Club or to become a member, please email the president, Michael Prezioso.
