Student Services Center Plaza

The overall design for the project draws upon one of the campus’ busiest pedestrian intersections at the First Street Promenade and Meriam Library. Emphasizing this ‘node’ is the formation of the circular geometry which becomes the heart of the plaza.  The plaza has an array of circular concrete seatwalls and Pistache trees to encourage formal and informal gatherings. The focal point of the plaza is the event stage. The BMU Marketplace terrace extends to the stage providing additional sitting, eating and viewing areas. The extended bioswale and a new Sequoia grove flow south to the existing courtyard Sequoias transitioning between the Student Services Center and the plaza. Bronze plaques on the two brick entry pilasters formally generate a gateway welcoming students and visitors to campus.
