Throughout the 2006-2007 academic year, I will continue to work on
academic assessment, specifically as it has to do with the Critical
Thinking course and how critical thinking is taught in General Education courses on the Chico campus.
I continue to be interested in the phenomenon of Burning Man as it relates to education as a cultural phenomenon and as part of my continuing research in cultural symbol systems and philosophy of religion. In the area of philosophical counseling, I am working on a paper tentatively titled "Sudden and Gradual Acceptance Viewed in the Mirror of Critical Thinking." Taking some inspiration from the views of sudden and gradual enlightenment in Zen, the paper seeks to articulate counselors' options for making use of critical thinking techniques by differentiating varieties of acceptance of propositions to which the counselor may be called to respond. |
