Apply now for the Chico Chapter scholarship: The Dorothea Powers Award.

The CSU, Chico chapter of Phi Kappa Phi presents this $1,000 award in honor of former CSU, Chico Spanish professor Dr. Dorothea Powers, recipient of the 1968-1969 CSU, Chico Outstanding Teacher Award.

Applications (PDF)are due electronically to Professor Mahalley Allen, mdallen@csuchico.edu, by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018.  Late applications will not be considered.

Application materials include application; current resume (no more than 2 pages); contact information for two CSU, Chico faculty who can confirm your academic work and your commitment to the mission of Phi Kappa Phi; and an essay discussing how you would use the award to further Phi Kappa Phi's mission "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi's ongoing commitment to excellence is reflected in its award programs. $1.4 million is given each biennium to outstanding students and members through the Society's various awards competitions:

  • Study Abroad
      Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Seventy-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year (50 Session A / 25 Session B).
  • Literacy
  • Love of Learning
      Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate professional development for active Phi Kappa Phi members to include (but not be limited to): Graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development, travel related to teaching/research/learning, etc. Recipients of the Fellowship award are not eligible to apply. Two hundred awards, at $500 each, are distributed each year.  Phi Kappa Phi offers two application cycles each year, awarding one hundred winners per cycle. 

    The competition is open to all active (dues current) Phi Kappa Phi members who:

    • Have completed their baccalaureate studies by application submission deadline.
    • Have not yet received a Fellowship or Award of Excellence grant.
