Educational Background:
Lori Beth Way earned her Ph.D. from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. Her research interests fall into the broad categories of police discretion, women and the criminal justice system, women and politics, and public law. She is currently working on projects that consider proactive (or self-directed) police patrol, police and city efforts to deal with large scale events, and Supreme Court justices' concurrences. Professor Way also began facilitating weekly forums as avenues for discussion for students and faculty in Spring 2002. The forums were created to give students and faculty a means of regular contact outside of the classroom and to help build a greater sense of community within the Political Science department. Each week there is a different topic or presenter scheduled. Past presenters have included a city council member, the editor of the Chico Enterprise Record, and political candidates. Other topics have included the value of internships, the role of interest groups in American politics, and the government's response to 9-11.
