Professor Ruddell has taught at Chico State since 2002. His teaching and research interests are in the field of criminal justice. He holds a PhD from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Professor Ruddell's research interests are criminal justice policy, juvenile justice, corrections, firearms policy, and lethal violence. His publications have appeared in Crime and Delinquency, Juvenile and Family Court Journal, and the Criminal Law Quarterly. Prior to his academic career, Professor Ruddell worked as a supervisor and manager within the Department of Corrections and Public Safety in Saskatchewan, Canada.
