Andy Potter

Assistant Professor in Public Administration, Dr. Andy Potter

After graduating from Pomona College with a B.A. in Latin American Studies in 2000, Professor Potter spent several years working in statewide affordable housing advocacy and tenants’ rights. In 2005, he earned an M.A. in Urban Planning from UCLA.

Professor Potter worked for four years researching the long-term care industry for the Service Employees International Union, before pursuing a Ph.D. in health services research at the University of Iowa. While at Iowa, he worked on a telehealth evaluation study, research on federally qualified health centers, exchanges, informal caregiving, assisted living, and on an inventory of rural health workforce initiatives funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health. He received several research awards while at the University of Iowa, including a semester-long research award allowing him to complete his dissertation, and a national award for the best student abstract submitted to the AcademyHealth Long Term Services and Supports interest group in 2016.

Professor Potter was raised in Chico during the 1980s and 1990s, and returns to the community after a twenty year absence. As a longtime student and practitioner of public policy, Professor Potter looks forward to bringing his diverse experience in health, labor, and urban planning to Chico State and the surrounding community. He is excited to play a role in educating the future leaders of the North State, and to introduce his three young children to the region’s natural beauty.
