Author-Date Text Citations
One author:
In Milgram’s obedience experiments, subjects were duped into
believing they were to be “teachers” (Bok 1986).
Two or three authors:
In Milgram’s experiment the “teachers” were to administer painful electric
shocks of increasing strength to “learners” whenever the latter made mistakes
(Elm and Oak 1982). The so-called learners were actually actors (Wagon,
Blink, and Gold 1998).
More than three authors:
As the teachers administered what they thought was an ever stronger
punishment, they were observed to see whether they continued or
protested (Gold et al. 1989).

References Section
This section begins on a separate page after the last page of the body of your paper. It lists those works (books, articles, films, interviews, etc.) you actually cite in the body of your paper. All sources are alphabetically arranged, by the last names of the authors.
On the following reference list, note that the McCourt entry is an example of a book citation, the Molotch entry is an example of a journal article citation, and the Metropolitan Housing is an example of a group name citation.
