Subject: Approval for Revisions to the BA with a Major in Latin American Studies and to the Minors in Canadian Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Asian Studies, and Latin American Studies

Upon the recommendation of the Provost, I approve the revisions to the BA with a major in Latin American Studies and to the minors in Latin American Studies, Canadian Studies, Asian Studies, and Middle Eastern Studies, all effective fall 1991.

Latin American Studies major. The revised major requires three specified courses, a language proficiency-level equivalent to fifth semester Spanish, and remaining units selected from four groups of courses. The course requirements for the major are 30-48.5 units.

Canadian Studies minor. One course was added to each of the two selection categories. The number of units required for the minor remains the same at 21.

Middle Eastern Studies minor. The number of units to be selected from one of the groups was reduced by three; another group was reduced by two due to changes in unit values for the language courses. The course requirement for the minor will be 21 units.

Asian Studies minor. The range of units to be selected from one group was changed to 9-15 units (from 12-15 units), and the range of a second group changed to 0-6 units (from 0-3 units). The number of units required for the minor remains unchanged at 21.

Latin American Studies minor. The revised minor re quires two specified courses, a language proficiency-level equivalent to third semester Spanish, and remaining units selected from four groups of courses. The number of units required for the minor remains the same, 18-28.
