Subject: Approval for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts

Upon the recommendation of the Academic Senate, and with the concurrence of the Provost, I approve the following reorganization within the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

1. The Religious Studies Department and Humanities Program will merge to create the new Comparative Religion and Humanities Department (CORH) reporting code 15101. The following programs will reside within this new department:

  • BA in Humanities
  • BA in Religious Studies
  • Minor in Cinema Studies
  • Minor in Classical Civilization
  • Minor in Ethics (also resides within Philosophy Department)
  • Minor in Humanities
  • Minor in Medieval Studies
  • Minor in Modern Jewish and Israel Studies
  • Minor in Religious Studies
  • Minor in Renaissance Studies

The subject prefixes HUMN, MJIS and RELS will also reside within CORH.

2. The Foreign Languages Department and the International Studies Program will merge to create the new International Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Department (ILLC) reporting code 11011. The following programs will reside within this new department:

  • BA in Asian Studies
  • BA in French
  • BA in German
  • BA in Latin American Studies
  • BA in Spanish
  • Minor in African Studies
  • Minor in Asian Studies
  • Minor in European Studies
  • Minor in French
  • Minor in German
  • Minor in Italian
  • Minor in Japanese
  • Minor in Latin American Studies
  • Minor in Middle Eastern Studies
  • Minor in Spanish

The subject prefixes AFRI, ARAB, ASST, CHNS, FLNG, FREN, GERM, GREK, HBRW, HNDI, INST, ITAL, JAPN, LAST, LATN, MEST, PORT, RUSS, SPAN, THAI, VIET will also reside within ILLC.

3. The Music Department and the Theatre Department will merge to create the new Music and Theatre Department (MUTA) reporting code 10051. The following programs will reside within this new department:

  • BA in Music
  • BA in Musical Theatre
  • BA in Music Industry and Recording Arts
  • BA in Theatre Arts
  • Minor in Music
  • Minor in Musical Theatre Dance
  • Minor in Theatre Arts
  • Certificate in Keyboard Pedagogy
  • Certificate in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy

The subject prefixes MUSC and THEA will also reside within MUTA.

This change will be effective Fall 2012.
