Approval of Significant Change to the BA in Music

Executive Memorandum 13-014 January 4, 2013

From: Paul J. Zingg, President

Subject: Approval of Significant Change to the BA in Music

Upon the recommendation of the Academic Senate and with the concurrence of the Provost, I approve a significant change to the BA in Music. This change transfers the entire BA in Music Industry and Technology (MUIT) curriculum to the BA in Music as per a request from The National Association of Schools of Music, the accrediting agency for the music programs at CSU, Chico. The Major Core Program of the BA in Music will change to accommodate the addition of the BA in MUIT major core. The number of core units for the major will reduce from 29 to 13, and the number of required core courses for the major will change from 13 to 7. The 6 core courses from the original BA in Music Major Core Program will become part of both the Option in General Music and the Option in Music Education cores. The Major Option Course Requirements for the BA in Music will change from 24-37 to 40-53. The number of units for the major will remain the same. The reporting codes for the options will also remain the same. This change will be effective Fall 2013.
