Subject: Approval of a Minor Change to the BA in Journalism
Upon the recommendation of the Provost, I approve a minor change to the BA in Journalism. This change updates both options within the BA. Both options have Group A, Group B and Group C lists of electives. The Group C list of electives is now being combined into the Group B list of electives. The number of units a student selects from Group B will change from 5-6 units to 8-9 units.
The other changes being made involve the special major requirements set by the accrediting agency which specifies the number of units journalism majors must take outside of the journalism/communication curriculum. This number was reduced from 80 to 72, and the requirement that 65 of the units must be in liberal arts and sciences was also removed. The units for the major will not change. This change will be effective Fall 2013.
