Subject:  Veterans Day Observance, Revision to 2006-07 Academic Calendar

Governor Schwarzenegger recently signed Assembly Bill 720, which added a section to the Education Code requiring the California State University to observe the Veterans Day holiday on November 11 and to close the University on that day. The bill becomes effective on January 1, 2006.
When November 11 falls on a Saturday, the CSU will observe the preceding Friday as the Veterans Day holiday. When November 11 falls on a Sunday, we will observe the following Monday as the Veterans Day holiday.

Beginning with the 2006-07 academic year, the campus will begin observing the Veterans Day holiday in accordance with the new Education Code provision. As such, during 2006, Veterans Day will be observed on Friday, November 10. Veterans Day will no longer be rescheduled and observed during the December winter break. Therefore, employees will now be required to use an additional day of accrued leave credit during the December closure. For 2006, employees will need 5-1/2 days of appropriate leave credits for the closure, assuming the governor grants a half day off during the week of December 18. In addition to Christmas (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1), holidays that are rescheduled in order to provide for the December closure are Columbus Day, Lincoln's Birthday, and President's Day.

The enclosed 2006-07 Academic Calendar replaces the corresponding calendar from EM 04-003.
