Subject:	Executive Memorandum 02-03, Revisions to 2002-03 Academic Calendar

Enclosed is a revised 2002-03 academic calendar. There are several changes of which you need to be aware.

1. Spring break 2003 is March 17-21 and includes Saint Patrick's Day. (This change was made in a revised EM last May. )
2. As a result of a mandate by the CSU Board of Trustees, we will honor Cesar Chavez' birthday on March 31, 2003. The traditional travel day the Monday after Easter will be discontinued. (These changes were also previously made in a revised EM. )
3. The new payment deadline for fall 2002 is Thursday, August 1, 2002 and Thursday, December 19, 2002 for spring 2003. These deadlines are several weeks earlier than in previous years for several reasons. We want to provide more time for students to pay fees before their classes are dropped. The previous deadline, the Thursday before classes began, did not allow time for students to rectify their problem with payment or financial aid confirmation. Consequently, each semester many of the 1200 students who failed to pay fees or confirm financial aid were disenrolled. Moving the deadline to an earlier date will allow for early notification and provide time for students to either pay fees or confirm financial aid applicant status and preserve their classes before the university is in session.

This EM also includes changes to the financial aid deadlines and requirements and refund deadlines and requirements associated with the changes to the registration fee payment deadlines.
