Subject:	Executive Memorandum 93-18, Approval of the Center for Mathematics and Science Education

Center for Mathematics and Science Education was recommended for approval by the Provost. I approve establishment of this Center, effective immediately, to be located within the College of Natural Sciences. The primary goals of the Center are 1) to strengthen the science and math understanding of current and future K-14 teachers; 2) to develop the pedagogy for science and math programs; 3) to promote collaboration among teachers, science and math educators, scientists, and mathematicians; 4) to articulate and coordinate with other science and math education reform initiatives, statewide and nationally; and 5) to increase the involvement of students from groups which have been historically underrepresented in science and math.
