It is critical that all teachers meet the needs of diverse students and are sensitive to the linguistic and cultural diversity of all students. In order to meet this challenge, California State University, Chico has designed CLAD Certification for Credentialed Teachers.
The courses for the Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate will provide the basic knowledge necessary to meet the needs of California's diverse student population. This will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Knowledge of the nature, structure, use, and acquisition of first and second languages
- Bilingual and ESL models and methodologies
- Knowledge of culture, learning styles, and crosscultural communication, including the nature of culture
Prerequisites for Admission
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and admission into the CSU, Chico Graduate School
