Service-learning is a successful teaching method that engages students in meaningful learning experiences within the community. This course provides instruction about the fundamentals of service-learning and one way to incorporate it into teaching and curriculum design. The course is designed specifically for preservice teachers who are studying to become teachers in K-12 settings. The video clips provided in the Toolbox highlight preservice teacher candidates and examples of the service-learning projects they taught during student teaching assignments.
Teacher candidates attending different university teacher preparation programs are invited and encouraged to post their service-learning curriculum ideas on the Bulletin Board located in the Toolbox. The intent of the Bulletin Board is to encourage sharing and cross-campus service-learning curriculum development. The goal of this website is to facilitate the practice of effective service-learning during student teaching and to encourage new teachers in the field to iimplement this important teaching strategy. Please post your questions and ideas and engage in an active discourse about your service-learning ideas!
