You will start this course by beginning a response journal.

You will write your journal entries in Word; the document will then be attached to an email and sent to your instructor. Each entry should be titled according to lesson and entry number.

Step One: To begin the "Journey into Service-Learning" Journal, complete two entries:

Entry # 1:

a. When you think about your years in school, who was your favorite teacher and why?
b. How do you learn something new? Describe an example of something you have learned to do well. (from Bianchi & Bianchi Seminars)

Entry # 2:

Read the summary of 2 examples of Service-learning units that each contain a service-learning component. Discuss the following in your journal:

a. Compare and contrast the two units based upon the following criteria: the community served, the service goals, and the academic goals.
b. Evaluate how important you believe the service component is to enhancing the academic and social learning of the students in each unit.
