Lesson 5: The Elements of Service-Learning

 OVERVIEW
This lesson introduces Seven Elements of High Quality Service-Learning developed by the Service-Learning 2000 Center at Stanford University. These elements provide clear criteria for the development, implementation, and evaluation of service-learning activities. Depending upon the age & grade level of the students, the elements of service-learning will vary, but each element is important to plan for at every grade level.

 COMPETENCIES
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  1. List and describe the Seven Elements of High Quality Service-Learning.

  2. Recognize the differences between high service and low service, unrelated learning and related learning service projects.

  3. Use the Service-Learning Quadrant in evaluating service projects.
