Lesson 6: The Benefits of Service-Learning

 OVERVIEW
This lesson discusses the benefits to the student, the community and the school when a service project component is introduced into the academic curriculum. For years, communities have invited their local schools to become more actively involved in everyday activities; likewise, schools have welcomed the involvement of the community in student activities. Service-learning provides a link between schools and communities.

 COMPETENCIES
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  1. Discuss the related aspects of personal growth, career development, social development, and academic/cognitive benefits for students of a positive service-learning project.
