Far-Flung Alums
When LAURIE LOPEZ traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, she was surprised to catch a glimpse of something very familiar—a couple Chico State sweatshirts. They were worn by alum KENDRA KIRKMAN (BA, Liberal Studies, ’05; Credential, ’07) and her friend Brian Hall, who is teaching in Ethiopia. Kirkman taught elementary school in Ethiopia several years ago and is now a functional life skills teacher at Paradise Intermediate School. Lopez (BA, Information and Communication Studies, ’79) is the secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), headquartered in Santiago, Chile. It is one of the United Nations’ five regional commissions.
