Dear Alums

dear alumns
alums
When last I wrote, I discussed the alum role in student recruiting efforts underway at Chico State. We knew alums would be a key to turning around the student shortfalls that have plagued us in recent years. We asked for your help in several ways, and you did not disappoint us!
We have been receiving student prospect cards from alums identifying promising high school juniors, seniors, and community college transfers. You have also helped us by assisting with a major college fair in Seattle and prospective student receptions throughout the state. The presence of alums is a key factor in influencing both prospective students and their parents to choose Chico State. If you have contact with a promising high school or community college studentor know someone who doesplease use the form on the bottom of page 12 in this magazine, or call us so that we may provide enrollment information on Chico State. (The Alumni Relations phone number is 530-898-6472. You may call the Office of Admissions at either 1-800-542-4426 or 530-898-4428.)
In addition to recruiting and outreach assistance, we have been busy with alumni chapter and club activities statewide. We have added a new alumni club in Napa Valley. Interest is strong in alum events all over the state. The needs of twenty-six active chapters and clubs keep our small staff very busy. Look on this page for a club or chapter near you, and get involved. Remember, Chico State friends are special!
We have a new AA league professional baseball team in Chicothe Chico Heat. Alum group packages, which include a barbecue prior to game time, are available for evening games in June, July, and August. We also are working out package deals with local motels, so there is really no excuse not to get a group together and come back to visit us! Call me or Patty Davis for more details (530-898-6472).
Several chapters have active scholarship programs, and we encourage you to consider this. A scholarship may be as little as $200, but it may be the deciding factor in a student's choosing Chico State. This is another area in which clubs and chapters can provide significant assistance to our recruiting programs. Look for more information on this in the next issue.
In closing, I'd like to announce that Donna Boyd has joined our clerical staff, which should allow us to serve you faster and better.
Allen Sherwood, Director of Alumni Relations
