At the 5th Annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner during Founders Week 1998, the Chico State Associates honored seven alumni who are leaders in their professions. These outstanding alumni are fondly remembered by the faculty as inquisitive students and often as personal friends.
THOMAS
B. MARTIN
(B.S., Agricultural Business, 66) joined Durham Pump, Inc. twenty years ago as the president and chief executive officer. The company serves agricultural clients, water districts, homeowners with wells, and municipalities. With a Vocational Agric-ulture Teaching Credential from UC, Davis, Martin taught for the San Jose Unified School District. In 1971, he began working for Crocker National Bank as an agricultural loan officer, moved into management, and later became a vice president and product manager for Diversified Crop Loans, Northern California. Martin has been the president of the California Irrigation Dealers Association and is active with the National Irrigation Association. Since 1992, he has been the president of Chico Senior High Schools Agriculture Advisory Program. He has been a member of the Chico State Agriculture Advisory Council since 1993 and has assisted the University Farm with development of their walnut and almond orchards. Martin joined Chico Rotary Club in 1980 and has served on its board of directors. He is the founder and director of North State National Bank. Martin will soon be a ten-gallon community blood donor. In 1988, Martin and his wife, Marsha, purchased a thirty-acre almond orchard between Chico and Durham. They have two grown daughters.
