MARVIN WILLIAM BEAUMONT
(1951) taught drafting and math at Oroville High School.
ROLAND CAVANAGH
(1982) was parks director for Concord and general maintenance
supervisor for Chico Recreation and Park District. He was active in kiwi
farming and playing trombone in local community bands.
NICK FLORATOS
(1951) was a Chico State Far Western Conference heavyweight boxing champion
for three years. He served as Sacramento County superintendent from 1984
until 1989 and was awarded the prestigious Marcus Foster Award for Administrative
Excellence by the Association of California School Administrators.
MARY LOUISE GATES
(1973) was a homemaker and lived in Monterey for twenty-five years.
HALLY (GARDNER) GIBSON
(1957) was a teacher and NDEA language specialist. She taught in Greece,
Lebanon, Mexico, and Guatemala and was an ALM consultant to the California
State Department of Education.
DOROTHY (MOREHEAD) HILL
(1943) was a secondary school and Butte College teacher. She taught and
lectured on the history of Butte County Indians and wrote and contributed
to six books. In 1990, the Chico branch of Soroptomist International honored
her as a "Woman of Distinction" for her ethnographic work with the Indians
of Northern California and for being the founding president of the Association
of Northern California Records and Research.
CARL ANDREW KELLY
(1973) was a certified engineer with Amni Means Ltd. He was an assistant
district commissioner with Boy Scouts of America and received the 1997
district merit award.
FRED LANDIS
(1940) was born in Chico. He was a dentist who pioneered in the field
of implant dentistry. Landis was a member of many medical, fraternal,
philanthropic, and service organizations. He enjoyed life, fast cars,
boats, golfing, water and snow skiing, and flying.
JANE (HUME) LONG
(1943) had a successful career as a military wife. She was born, raised,
and educated in Chico.
TERESA ORINOWILZ
(1983) taught at Olivehurst Elementary School, Marysville Joint Unified
School District. Formerly, she had been a nurse.
DAN HENRY OWENS
(1978) was the superintendent of the Greenfield Union School District
until his retirement in 1991. He was a life member of the Lions Club and
a member of the Sierra AIDS Council.
ELLA CAROLINE SAPP
(1916) was 100 years old when she died in February 1999. She was born
in Howland Flat, a mining community outside Oroville. At sixteen, she
was accepted to the Chico Normal School. She attended socials hosted by
Annie K. Bidwell and received her teaching credential at graduation. She
worked in various one-room schoolhouses at a starting pay of $75 a month
and was later the principal of Shasta Union Elementary. She taught for
forty-three years in Butte County and Chico. Sapp donated the Ella C.
Sapp House on the corner of 3rd and Normal Streets to CSU, Chico. It is
used for alumni and advancement offices.
SANDRA SHEPARD
(1974) worked for the Office of Social Security in Oroville. She was a
past member of the American Association of University Women.
