Helping To Make CSU, Chico Better

MINA ASHCROFT, a duplicating machine operator for University Printing Services, died in March 1999. She was 44. Ashcraft worked for the university since 1996.

KEITH BOWEN, former physical education and education professor, died in October 1998. He was 81. Bowen taught at the university from 1967 to 1980, when he retired to part-time status until 1988.

JAMES DUNLAVEY, professor emeritus of business law, died in February 1999. He was 67. Dunlavey joined the Department of Management in 1980 after a successful career as a trial and business lawyer in the Bay Area and retired in 1993. He published several articles on property and employment law in top academic journals.

SYLVIA JONES, retired staff, died in March 1999. She was 69. Jones worked for twenty-three years in the interlibrary loan unit of Meriam Library.

ELLEN SUMPTER died of cancer in October 1998. She was 61. Sumpter worked in Accounting Operations from 1970 to 1987. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Sumpter, who worked on campus in Facilities Management until he retired in 1987.

MARGARET TRUSSELL, professor emeritus in the Department of Geography and Planning, died of cancer in December 1998. She was a faculty member here from 1966 to 1986 and had retired to her home in Bodega Bay.

JOHN VEDRINE, an accompanist in the Department of Theatre Arts from 1968 until his retirement in June 1988, died in November 1998.

BEVERLY WADSWORTH, professor emerita in the Department of Physical Education and Exercise Science, died in April 1999. She was 71. Wadsworth began teaching here in 1968, was an assistant softball coach in the 1970s, and took an early retirement in 1983, continuing to teach after that time.

FRANK WATTERS, retired professor in the Department of Economics, died in January 1999. He was 70. Watters taught here from 1966 until 1991, was an expert in economic history and development, and was active in civic affairs, including holding positions on the Butte County and City of Chico Planning Commissions.
