Alumni board has new president, exciting travel plans Wildcats on the Move

Joyce (Richardson) Wood (B.A., Business Administration, '55) retired recently from the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. While at Chico, she was a member of Delta Zeta and Cardinal Key. Joyce has three children, one of whom, Byron, is an engineering graduate from Chico. After teaching for twenty-five years, Joyce joined the Foreign Service and served in Nigeria, The Gambia, Ecuador, Colombia, USSR, Ghana, Burundi, and Zaire. She is now working part-time for her son's engineering company and remodeling her home in Santa Rosa. Irene Obera (B.A., Physical Education, '57) who at forty-two, whipped the socks off her competitors by breaking the American record in her age group by running the 400-meter sprint in 59.9 seconds! In 1997, she earned the title "Fastest Woman in the World" when she out-ran every other master's age-group world champion in the 100 meters. While at CSU, Chico, Obera played field hockey, basketball, and softball. At sixty-five, she can still run 100 meters in 13.9 seconds and has already earned a spot in the Track and Field Hall of Fame. Obera says, "Sports just keep you going. They keep you happy and healthy." Obera is a former principal, school counselor, and gym teacher.
