Baby in Need of Life-Saving Transplant
Mia Herndon, daughter of Roger and Shasta (BS, Nursing, ’00) Herndon and the sister of Nyah and Ethan, is the focus of a fundraising campaign to assist with her medical expenses. Born on March 11, 2004, Mia was diagnosed with primary hyperoxaluria, a rare liver disease, and doctors at UC San Francisco Children’s Hospital recommended a life-saving kidney and liver transplant. The Herndon family, residents of Paradise, where this kind of treatment is not available, had been living at the Ronald McDonald House since September. In February, they moved into a one-bedroom apartment near the hospital.
Funds are needed for Mia’s transplant-related expenses and post-transplant care. Tax-deductible donations may be made in person at any Wells Fargo branch location using account number 6961894927 or mailed to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, 2501 COTA Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. Checks or money orders should be made payable to “COTA for Mia H.” Secure credit card donations are also accepted online at www.cota.org. For more information, please contact campaign manager Seana O’Shaughnessy at 415-933-8252 or Lynn Costa at 530-872-7766. |
