A Recreation Connection
After a 39-year career in public service, Sam Goepp (BA, Recreation Administration, ’74) retired as general manager of the San Jacinto Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District on Dec. 28, 2008. Having overseen the district’s growth from one park to 76, he turns the reins over to fellow CSU, Chico alum, Jeff Leatherman (BS, Recreation, ’01).
“I think the district will be well served,” Goepp told inland Southern California’s Press-Enterprise. “He’s an energetic young guy.”
The Chico State connection doesn’t end there: Both Goepp and Leatherman met their wives while seniors at the University. Goepp’s wife, Pam (BA, Speech, ’75), is retiring after 32 years of teaching in elementary schools. Their son Collin is also an alum, graduating in 2006 with a degree in construction management. Leatherman’s wife, Michelle (BA, Liberal Studies, ’02), is, like Pam Goepp, an elementary school teacher.
As Leatherman settles into his new job, the Goepps are making a move back to Northern California. In their retirement, they will be living on their Durham almond ranch.
