Floyd L. English Scholarship General Studies Thematic Korean Summer Institute Discovering John Bidwell		Floyd L. English (B.S., Physics, ’59; center, above) is president and chief executive officer of Andrew Corporation of Orland Park, Illinois, an international supplier of antennas and transmission lines to the telecommunications industry. He has distinguished himself in his career, receiving his master’s and doctoral degrees in physics from Arizona State University, directing research at Sandia Laboratories in New Mexico, marketing for the semi-conductor components division at Rockwell International in Newport Beach, and forming his own tele-metry company, Darcom, Inc. He has never forgotten the wonderful education he received in Chico. Andrew Corporation has a history of giving back to the community through the philanthropic Aileen S. Andrew Foundation, which is dedicated to education and community service. When the Floyd L. English Scholarships were created in 1996 through the foundation, ten natural science students received $2500 each year for from one to three years. English said, “I have been so inspired by the sincerity of the students,” and praised the way Roger Lederer (left, above), dean of the College of Natural Sciences, has organized the competition. This year, fourteen new scholarships of $2500 to $11,000 were awarded from one to four years to students in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Geosciences, Mathematics, Nutrition and Food Sciences, Nursing, Chemistry, and Physics. Two students are continuing their 1996 scholarships. English returned to Chico State last September with the president of the Andrew Foundation, Robert Hord (right, above), to honor the recipients.
