Psychology professor Ed Abramson was interviewed on 20/20 (ABC, October 9, 1998) regarding his new book tentatively titled To Have and to Hold: How to Take off the Weight When Marriage Puts on the Pounds (Kensington, spring '99).

Child development professor Judy Bordin was quoted in a front-page Fresno Bee story September 16, 1998, about the Every 15 Minutes program, which addresses the frequency and tragedy of drunken driving accidents.

One of English professor Clark Brown's op-ed pieces for the San Francisco Chronicle appeared in the April 5, 1998, issue.

University president Manuel A. Esteban was featured in a news brief with an accompanying photo in the Chronicle of Higher Education on May 8, 1998. The article discussed the president's glass-blowing back- ground and the President's Scholars Competition. He was mentioned again in the Chronicle's special 1998 Almanac Issue, August 28, 1998.

English professor Carolivia Herron received national media attention for her children's book, Nappy Hair, after a Brooklyn school teacher was disciplined for using it in class. New York Times articles on November 24-28 about the book and Herron led to coverage by the Los Angeles Times, AP, Newsweek, USA Today, ABC's World News Tonight, the Today Show, and many other publications and programs.

Tahoe World published a feature story in July 1998 about parks and recreation management professor Ron Hodgson's work using ski lift-type equipment to clear hillside debris.

Physical education and exercise science professor Duane Knudson was quoted in a front-page San Francisco Examiner story September 15, 1998, about the biomechanics of slugger Mark McGwire's swing.

The Sacramento Bee ran a story September 18, 1998, in which Ed Masterson, associate vice president for University Advancement, was quoted about the $1.4 million gift for scholarships Chico State received from the estate of Richard Dinsmore.

Political science professor Chuck Price was quoted in a Los Angeles Times story last April about Governor Pete Wilson's support of Proposition 226. He had an article in the August 1998 California Journal on ballot initiative politics.

Religious studies professor Sarah Pike was interviewed by CNN in summer 1998 for a feature on new religions.

Shauna Quinn, program coordinator for the Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center, was quoted in the Sacramento Bee about last spring's Fun Without Alcohol Fair.

Communication design lecturer David Shepard was lauded in an article in Time (October 12, 1998) for his restoration of the classic French serial Les Vampires, which the magazine called "the movie event of the year."

Chico State's Introduction to Wines course was mentioned with UC, Davis and Fresno State as California programs offering courses for wine professionals in "A Fine Wine Education" in the March 1998 issue of Bon Appetit. The author was Anthony Dias Blue, a widely published wine critic.

The Wall Street Journal referred to CSU, Chico in a story August 26, 1998, about rural economic development in Shasta County. On January 28, 1998, the Journal profiled the Rural Venture Capital Network, which is affiliated with CSU, Chico.
