Years ago, I never thought I'd be in a position to support scholarships at Chico State. Now that I am able to, I am delighted to give something back to the university.

I have such warm memories of Chico State. Coming from Richmond in the Bay Area, I didn't know anyone when I arrived. But people were incredibly friendly, and my connections to the university grew and grew.

It's hard to gauge everything I took away from my years in Chico. From my professors, I gained an understanding of the world I still rely on today. From my coaches and teammates, I gained a work ethic and sense of team spirit. From my fraternity membership, I gained a number of lifelong friendships.

When I realized that state funding would not meet the scholarship needs of future Chico State students, I thought about where I wanted my scholarship support to go. Since I was an athlete, athletic scholarships were a natural. I also had a number of fraternity brothers and teammates who went into teaching, and I knew it was a profession that needed more dedicated, talented people. So it was easy for me to choose education as another area for student scholarships.

I am proud that I've been able to help Chico State, and I plan to give additional money in the future to select projects and scholarship areas. Forming a trust fund to benefit scholarships has given me a great feeling. I tell people I feel like I've won the lottery, and I mean it.
