Students Sue Lowrie and Sarah DeForest of Chico’s award winning Forensics Program were named the region’s top debater and top public speaker for 1997-98 by the Northern California Forensics Association. Teammate Cara Cupp joined Lowrie as a member of the Academic All American Team.

Parks and Recreational Management students designed a forty-acre park for the Feather River Recreation and Park District. This is one of over 100 such projects students in Planning and Design of Recreational Areas and Facilities courses have completed.

A Chico State team of Civil Engineering students placed first in the Engineering Olympics, and fourth in the Concrete Canoe competition at the 1998 Mid-Pacific Conference sponsored by the American Society of Engineers and Master Builders, Inc.

Chico State’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team captured International Honors and were among the top ten SIFE teams in the world at the 1998 International Exposition held in Kansas City. SIFE members develop leadership, teamwork, and communications skills through teaching the principles of free enterprise to high school students.
