Ying Yeh, Chico States' Opera Workshop director. Yeh was the foremost diva in China and returned there in October to sing in Tianneman Square as part of China's national 50th celebration of the Peoples Republic of China.
 

Ying Yeh, Music, was featured in a special Chinese New Year broadcast viewed by approximately 1.2 billion Chinese in February 1999. Yeh has won both the All-China National Singing and the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Singing competitions.

Curt DeBerg, Accounting and Management Information Systems, recipient of CSU, Chico's 1998-99 Outstanding Service Award, was named the 1999 Sam M. Walton Fellow of the Year at the International Exposition of Students in Free Enterprise for his guidance of the Chico chapter.

Concert pianist Caren Levine, Music, won the 1999 Artist's International Competition and a debut recital at Carnegie Hall in January 2000.

Lois Bueler, English, was named CSU, Chico's 1998-99 Outstanding Teacher. She has received a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship and been chosen to participate in three NEH Summer Seminars in rhetoric, literature, and philosophy. She has published a book on eighteenth-century novelist Samuel Richardson's Clarissa, and has a second book accepted by Ohio State University Press.

David Daley, Agriculture, CSU, Chico's 1999 Outstanding Adviser, was one of fifteen advisers nationwide to receive a 1999 Outstanding Adviser Award from the National Academic Advising Association. Considered the premier university livestock judging coach in the state, he enjoys a national reputation in livestock judging.
