Lawrence M. Bryant, an early modern European historian of international reputation, is CSU, Chico's 1999-2000 outstanding professor. Among his academic honors are membership in the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton and a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to the Folger Shakespeare Library. Stuart Bartholomew, construction management, received the Golden Beaver award for Outstanding Achievement in heavy engineering construction from the Beavers, a national industry group. Bartholomew's newest book is Estimating and Bidding for Heavy Construction. Diane Dwyre, political science, is part of a national team, funded by the Pew Charitable Trust, studying special-interest financing in presidential and congressional elections. Stephen Lewis, history, received a $24,300 Spencer Foundation award for "Revolution and the Rural Schoolhouse: Forging State and Nation in Chiapas, Mexico." Artemus Ward, political science, received the Hughes-Gossett Award from the Supreme Court Historical Society for his paper "The Tenth Justice: The Retirement of William O. Douglas." |
Pam Brown, social work, was the plenary speaker at a conference in Arkengelsk, Russia, where she helped establish an international research collaboration for women's crisis centers. Cris Guenter, Outstanding Teacher 1999-2000, was invited by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to work with ArtsEdge, an on-line educational resource for teachers. Kristina Schierenbeck, biology, received $138,000 from the National Science Foundation for "Computerization of the CSU, Chico Herbarium," and for her work on genetic speciation in rare plants. Barney Hope, economics, received a 1999-2000 Fulbright Scholar award for research on the National Economics and Social Development Plan at Mahasarakham University in Thailand. Cindy Phelps, chemistry, received $28,651 from the Dreyfus Foundation for her project "Making the Match." She was also awarded a CSU Research Award for her project "Further Studies of Metal Extraction Using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide." |
