Civil engineering graduate Curt Haselton
was awarded a full-ride scholarship to Stanford University.
Haselton will work toward his master's degree in structural
engineering.
Student's Video Game Showcased
A video game developed by senior computer science student
Dylan Perry was one of 10 chosen internationally
for a student showcase at the Independent Games Festival in
San Jose, California, in March 2002.
Super-Efficient Vehicle Reaches 855 mpg
CSU, Chico's mechanical engineering team placed in the top
five in a national high-gas-mileage competition. The Chico
supermileage vehicle reached 855 mpg at the Society of Automobile
Engineers Supermileage Vehicle Competition in Michigan in
June 2002.
Engineering
Students Ace Quiz Bowl
A team of four engineering students from CSU, Chico's chapter
of National Society of Black Engineers took first place in
the Academic Technical Bowl, a regional scholastic competition
held in Seattle, Washington, in November 2001. The students
answered questions about black history, from social to technical
topics, and defeated more experienced teams from Stanford
University and University of California, Irvine.
Real-Time Research
Electrical engineering professors Roy Crosbie
and John Zenor had their grant with the Office
of Naval Research extended for another year. The grant continues
work by the professors and a team of graduate students on
a real-time simulator of electrical transmission networks.
The project will provide a cost-effective way of evaluating
controllers and other related equipment for the U.S. Navy.
MESA
Wins National Recognition
Statewide Program Shines at CSU, Chico
California-based Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement
(MESA) was honored as one of the five most innovative public
programs in the nation in 2001. Since 1991, CSU, Chico's MESA
Schools Program has helped educationally disadvantaged pre-college
students excel in math and science. CSU, Chico's MESA Engineering
Program has recruited and supported disadvantaged engineering
students since 1984 and was featured as one of the best in
the western states in the fall 2001 issue of MAES (Minority
Americans in Engineering and Science) national magazine.
