CSU, Chico is the only university in the United States that has two board-certified forensic anthropologists on staff, Professor Turhon Murad and Professor P. Willey. They and their students work with agencies throughout California and Nevada on cases requiring a forensic anthropologist.

Outstanding Project Directors

Charles Nelson, director of the Geographical Information Center (GIC), specializes in geographical information systems (GIS) technology. GIC projects range from mapping the Sacramento River to urban mapping services to local governments.

Richard Holman, construction management, has received numerous environmental, construction, and restoration grants for projects in excess of $3.2 million with an additional $2.6 million grants pending. These projects include bio-engineered bank stabilization, recycled tire levee improvements, hydrology modeling, and stream channel and meadow restoration.

Emilyn Sheffield, recreation and parks management, and Alan Rellaford, communication design, direct the Tourism and Communication Design Partnership, an interdisciplinary group of faculty, staff, and students whose projects increase the visibility of public lands. Since 1998, more than 30 students have worked on more than a dozen contracts with Caltrans, National Forest Scenic Byways, and the Bureau of Land Management.
