Sophomore
soccer forward Amy Swanson earned First Team
All-West Region honors. Swanson also received First Team All-CCAA
honors, as did men's soccer sophomore Chris Wondolowski,
junior volleyball player Stacey Clifton,
and senior baseball players Ivan Hernandez
and Steve Newson pictured right.
Cross Country Program in Top Three of Nation
Both the women's and men's cross country teams took fifth
place at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division
II Championships in Ohio. Their combined efforts resulted
in CSU, Chico being named one of the top three Division II
cross country programs in the nation. Head coach Gary
Towne was named CCAA Coach of the Year for both programs.

Wildcats Are All American
At the CCAA Championships, both the men's and women's track
and field teams took second place, behind UC Davis. Twenty-two
athletes received All-CCAA honors, including 10 first-place
finishes. Sophomore Katie Lee, right, who
broke three CSU, Chico track records in spring 2003, finished
second in the 10,000-meter race at the NCAA Division II Championships
in Illinois. Five track and field Wildcats, including Lee,
earned All-America status at nationals: Howdy Atkinson,
shot put; Brianna Carenas, high jump;
Lyndsey Kuehn, steeplechase; and Steve Springhorn,
1,500 meters.
Golfer Is Division II's Most Valuable Player
The men's golf team finished fifth in the nation at the
NCAA Division II Championship in Oregon. Junior J.J.
Jakovac was named CCAA Most Valuable Golf Player
for the second straight year. The Golf Coaches Association
of America selected him to the CCAA All-Conference Team and
the PING All-America First Team. In 2002, Jakovac was the
NCAA Division II champion.
