MEChA Creates Bridges

MEChA received the Enhancement of Multicultural Understanding Award for contributing significantly to the development of a positive multicultural environment at CSU, Chico. MEChA sponsors many programs throughout the year to create a common interest and identity among Chicanos. One of MEChA’s main events is an annual high school youth conference.

Students Stay “Up ‘til Dawn” for St. Jude’s

More than 700 students participated in the fourth annual student-sponsored Up ’til Dawn event in October 2004. Students spent a night writing letters and getting educated about the work of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. When the national figures were in, CSU, Chico was among the top four university fundraisers in the event, raising $85,485. The amount brings the CSU, Chico’s total to $185,495 in the four years of the event.

Welcome to CAVE!

CAVE stands for Community Action Volunteers in Education, and it is the largest student-run organization on campus. Each year, this award-winning program places more than 1,600 volunteers in settings that provide services to children, the elderly, special populations, and community agencies. Students receive credit for their work. CAVE’s motto is “Life is for Learning.”

Outstanding Service to Students

Diana Parra-Villaseñor, assistant director of Educational Talent Search, was honored for outstanding service by the Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel at its 2005 Annual Conference. Parra-Villaseñor, one of two honorees from the western states, was recognized for her efforts on behalf of low-income and first-generation students.
